We drove back from Milford Sound around afternoon but we only reached back to Te Anau around sunset. We were not sure where to stay at the night but we decided to drive as close possible to Queenstown our next destination. Hence, we decided to stay in this camp ground.
Location
The campsite is located beside Lake Hayes. It is about 30 Km from Queenstown.
The Campsite
The camp ground is quiet spacious. There are many area we can park around the lake. The view to the lake was very nice.
Depends on whether you like it or not, during our visit there several group of ducks and geese that keep coming to all of van parked in the park. I thought that they were looking for foods. It was quiet cute actually, seeing the groups move around from the lake to one van, then swim to the lake again and went to other campervan. We didn’t give any food because it will make them get used to begging which will not be good.
Campsite Detail
- Cost: Free
- Overnight stay rule: Self-contained vehicles only
- Toilet: didn’t check
Travelogee Impression
We stayed in the camp ground on 16 May 2017.
What We Like
Beautiful camp ground with view to the lake. It is strategically located near Queenstown which is best for someone who is driving to and from the city.
What We Don’t Like
The entrance to the camp ground was a bit narrow. So I would imagine if there are cars coming from both direction, one of it needs to reverse to give way to the other.
