After exploring Dunedin, this campsite is the closes free overnight stay that we can found.
Location
The campsite is only about 18 Km from Dunedin, the largest city nearby.
The Campsite
This campground is on the cliff facing ocean and surrounded by a football field. In the afternoon, many family visiting the field accompanying their children playing there. But in the evening most of the visitor had left and only some campers stayed.
The parking area was very tight. We needed to park our car exactly side by side with other car. So it was not very comfortable. If you come late, the parking spot facing the ocean might have already full. So it will be better come early.
However, considering this as a free campground, we couldn’t complain too much. We already felt so grateful for the local community allowing us to stay there. After all, sleeping with ocean view is not an everyday experience. Especially we can saw a super moon on the night we stayed.
Campsite Detail
- Cost: Free
- Overnight stay rule: Self-contained vehicles only
- Toilet: we didn’t know if there was any toilet
Travelogee Impression
We stayed in the camp ground on 13 May 2017.
What We Like
The view facing the sea is amazing. We saw very beautiful super moon at night.
What We Don’t Like
The campsite is small and is located near a football field and also not far from residential area. So it is not really natural and not too quiet.
